Thinking About Getting a Dog? START HERE
Understand what your future dog will need—before you bring them home.
Good Owners. Good Dogs. Wrong Fit.
Most dogs given up to shelters each year aren’t bad dogs—and their owners aren’t bad people. The pairing was simply a mismatch. With the right knowledge, that outcome is preventable.

Looks Don’t Equal Compatibility
Thousands of new dog owners bring home a dog they love the look of—only to realize the dog’s behavior is harder to manage than expected. They spend months or even years trying to make it work.
Mismatched energy, unmet needs, and emotional stress can all be avoided when you understand what to expect before you bring a dog home.
Even the best training can't change what a dog was bred to do.
No matter how much effort you put in, a mismatch can leave you both frustrated and overwhelmed. You can train a dog to be obedient, but you can't train away its DNA.

Why I Built This
I thought I knew dogs. I grew up with them, studied breeds extensively in my free time, and considered myself well-prepared. But when I brought home an 8-week old Australian Shepherd, everything changed.
He needed more from me. More time, more stimulation, and more exercise than I could realistically give. And when those needs weren’t met, the behavioral issues followed: anxiety, reactivity, and restlessness. It wasn’t his fault. And it wasn’t really mine either. We were just incompatible.
That experience showed me how easy it is to fall in love with the idea of a dog without fully understanding what life with that dog will actually be like. I created these tools to help other people avoid the pain of that disconnect, and to feel confident choosing a dog they can truly enjoy.
Whether this is your first dog or your first time trying to get it right, I built this for you.

Why It's Worth It
When you choose the wrong dog, the consequences aren’t always immediate.
Months or even years later, you may realize things just aren’t working. By the time the discomfort surfaces, you’re so emotionally invested that every option feels wrong. Most people end up stuck in an exhausting loop: endless training, chronic stress, a strained relationship—or in some cases, rehoming the dog.
Ongoing Training
If you bring home a dog whose natural instincts lead to behaviors you don’t enjoy, you may find yourself stuck in a constant loop of trying to train those instincts away. Training is powerful and effective—but it won’t change a dog’s genetics.
For example, a dog bred to herd livestock will want to herd. Trying to eliminate that behavior entirely is a losing battle. You may be able to manage it or redirect it in healthy ways, but it takes consistent effort—and it’s something you should understand before bringing that dog home.
Rehoming
If your relationship with your dog becomes so strained that you decide to rehome them, you may experience a mix of emotions—heartbreak, frustration, guilt, even relief. Many loving owners find themselves in this painful position when the match just isn’t right.
Rehoming can offer both the dog and the owner a fresh start—one that better fits each of their needs. On the other hand, some people can’t imagine giving up a dog they love, no matter how difficult things become. They choose to push through, even at the expense of their own well-being.
We respect both decisions—but we’d love to help you avoid that heartbreak in the first place. Our goal is to set you up for success with a dog that genuinely fits your life—so you don’t have to wrestle with mixed feelings, and can simply enjoy the dog you choose.
Constant Strain
When a dog’s needs consistently go unmet, it often leads to chronic behavioral issues over time. Even with the best intentions, owners who are mismatched with their dog—especially when the dog needs more than they can realistically give—end up feeling stressed, frustrated, and sometimes even resentful.
They pour emotional energy into managing behavior, searching for tips and tricks that don’t truly solve the problem. Over time, the relationship starts to feel more like a burden than a bond—
and their time together feels more tiring than rewarding.
